I think I was subject to an example of badge snobbery today...

Porsche on Porsche snobbery: 944 vs 981 Boxster S

I’m on my way to the post office delivering a package for work. I pull up to a light where the road merged into one lane afterwards. The Boxster S, being driven by some guy in either his late 20s or early 30s, wearing a suit and sunglasses (think buisiness/banker attire) pulls up on my right. I guess I was hoping he’d notice my plebeian ass in my 944 and give me a kind gesture or wave as I was preparing to do. he didn’t even notice me or look in my direction.

Light turned green and he launched to put like 10 car lengths between himself and my slow ass.

Kinja'd!!!

(The Boxster in the picture above isn't the Boxster in question)

What else can be said? I reckon the majority of Porsches modern clientele isn’t interested or even knows about anything newer than the Boxster haha.

The other possibility is that he just doesn’t care about cars and wouldn’t know a Porsche 944 from a SAAB 900

Otherwise known as people who know the badge, but not the cars. I thought that's what a badge snob was?

No, I think its more feeling entitled because you drive or preference a certain make or model. What your describing is just called vanity.

He probably though, “ man, that’s a clean red (insert similar looking Japanese car of the time) “

I think he just saw your car as a red car.

In my experience, most Boxsters are driven by people who couldn’t care less about Porsches.

I think you’re reading too much into it. His train of thought was probably “God damn red light. Ugh, what should I make for dinner tonight? Did I record [show]? Ooh! Green! Time to have some fun. Weeeeeeeee!”

On the other hand, be nice to Boxster drivers. The 911 people shit all over them.

I reeled a Jetta in from a dead stop over the weekend at a light. They were doing about 50-60 coming up to the light, it changed and they didn’t even slow down, I just reeled that poor little VW in like a sunfish after fresh worms.

But I was actively trying to get the car to throw a code, which it finally did....Mopar is a different world though. Magnums especially. Despite the condition of the Magnum, you should consider taking it to C&C sometime just to see the reaction. Don’t pop the hood or anything, just park it in the middle and see what happens.

Tell me about it, i own a 981/6 boxster and I’ve been ignored by pretty much every other boxster in Houston. Only attention i’ve gotten was from an infiniti driver

Thats OK.

The 22 year old club rats will laugh at his Boxster because it’s not a 911.

I’ve actually heard that conversation out of two girls wearing dresses two sizes too small.

I found that when I had the 300ZX. 370Z owners didn’t care at all.

I feel people who buy these cars don’t want a great driver’s car. Becuase these cars aren’t great driver’s cars. They’re heavy and they insulate you from the driving because that’s all the rage. They’re powerful and they can corner, but you’re not as heavily involved.

They’re tools for bragging. Their owners don’t care about the history.
